hey guys

I echo Dena when I say I can't believe that it's May already.  May is one of those months that signals the middle of the year..... when did that happen !!!???

Well I have a fantastic challenge for all those traditional scrapbookers that want to dip their toes into the hybrid world and create something really different on their pages.

I would love to share my hybrid page with you .....

See the gorgeous arched border ... that's a Webster's Pages Digital Brush.  All I did was opened my photo editing software (in this case it is Photoshop 5) and opened a new document.   Then I selected the brush tool, and then selected the arched border.  By duplicating this brush a couple of times I made a long line of arches.   My final step was to print it out, at home, on transparency.  Easy !!!!!!!

I cut out the strips and adhered them onto the page with double sided tape.  As you can see the effect is amazing !!!!!

The beautiful frame under Madi's photo and elegant black roses are digital brushes as well. I used the exact same proceedure as the arched border, but adjusted the size of the images.  As you can see the black is striking.  You also have the option of changing the color of these brushes as well.  They are sooooooo adaptable.

So my challenge to you is to go ahead and use Brandin's beautiful Brushes on your project. You don't necessarily have to print them onto transparency like i did, any surface is effective and fun to do.  You can use cardstock, textured papers or even print straight onto your photographs.  You are only limited by your imagination......

Here are the details:

1. The majority of your project must contain products from Webster's Pages.

2. Your project must contain Webster's Digital Brush.

3. You must post your project in the gallery under the file name "May Digital/Hybrid Challenge - (title of your project)"  and post a link in this thread.

4. The challenge will be open from May 1 to May 31, 12 midnight PST.

Have fun everyone! I look forward to all the inspiration we will get from this challenge!

Great challenge Steph!  Also love your sample, the brush is absolutely gorgeous!

Oh WOW, Steph! This is an amazing example for the challenge! Such a stirring piece! I adore that quote and that fabulous photo...thanks for the incredible inspiration!

This is so awesome, Steph! I can't wait to try it!!!
This is awesome Steph! And thanks for the tutorial!! I will need hundreds of those from you before I even come close to creating something as stunning as this!
great challenge! I had no idea that brushes had been added to the digital collection!
This is truly breathtaking Steph!!
Soooo gorgeous, Steph! LOVE that beautiful border! Even though I'm not much of a digi gal, this sounds easy enough! I might have to give this a shot :)
Hi Steph! I've got a question I'm hoping you can help me with. The brushes have a file format that is different from all the other digi products. Do you have to have photoshop in order to open an ABR file?
Please disregard this question. WP's awesome CS just sent me a solution I'm going to test out tonight when I have more time. Once I get it to work w/o photoshop, I'll post the solution CS gave me in case any one else needs the info. Thank you! :-D
Doris, if you have any other problems, just give me a yell.  Cannot wait to see what you do.  Its so much fun !!!
Gimp (a free photo editing program) version 2.4 or higher (I used version 2.6) can do read ABR files! :-D If you open gimp and go to edit, then preferences, at the bottom is folders. Open that and click on brushes and you'll see where to find where your brushes are stored. Then when you download the WP brushes, unzip the file, then copy and paste to that location. Refresh your brushes and it should show up in your little tools! :-D It was very easy and the instructions were emailed to me through CS.

One layout 2 ways. The one with the white background is my entry since the only non-wp product on it is the white bg paper. I'm just posting the black bg one here too in case anyone is wondering why I have both? I started making this layout for a challenge on another site which required dry embossing and a black background, but I kept forgetting and switching it back to white. But w/the black bg, I wasn't sure that it was still mostly WP? It's also the first page of a 2 page spread, so I needed the white bg. The puppy layered w/the oversized crown was created with the Ladies & Gents brushes. I thought about coloring it in, but it seem "right" to leave b&w.

You Inspired Me!!

The Sweetest Thing

Trudi's layout is an absolute stunner. I love the hand-cut bird cages, the clever use of white space and the clusters of elements that make this layout classically Webster's Pages. Her tidbits of Everyday Poetry make me want to get creating right this second...you can grab this collection (and several others) over at our website. Thanks, Trudi for inspiring me today!
